Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

  1. Where will we go on our cruise?

The Group Cruises go around Sackets Harbor, Madison Barracks, out into the Black River Bay, over to Horse Island and back. The Private Cruises include everything on the Group Cruise and much more. Honestly, the Private Cruises are much more flexible and open to whatever you want to do. I will take you all over Henderson Bay so you’ll see Bass Island with a house on it, Gull Island with lots of cormorants, Association Island with an RV park on it, Henderson Harbor, Millionaires Row, Westcott Beach State Park and much more.

  2. What will we do on our cruise?

If it is an historical sightseeing cruise, you’ll hear a lot about the War of 1812, the history of some of the old buildings you can see from the water, and you’ll see lots of birds. We frequently see ducks, cormorants, seagulls, great blue herons, bald eagles, etc. If you are on a private cruise, you can do pretty much whatever you want; swimming, sunset cruising, stopping for lunch or dinner, etc.

  3. What should we bring on our cruise?

You are going to want a hat, sunglasses, long sleeves, and sun screen. You can also bring bottled water, beer, and wine.

  4. Do I have to wear a life jacket?

If you are under the age of 13 the answer is YES (Federal Law). If you can’t swim, the answer is also YES. For all others, the wearing of life jackets is optional for you. I have plenty of life jackets on board for all sized people. If we get into some rough or stormy weather, life jackets must be worn by everyone as directed by the Captain. By the way, the Captain always wears a life jacket in any weather.

  5. Is there a bathroom on the boat?

There is no bathroom, Head, or potty on board the boat. You will want to go before we leave the dock. In case of emergencies, we will go to Plan B.

  6. Can you take us over to Canada since it is pretty close?

No. I can take you to a lot of places, but we cannot cruise in Canadian waters or stop at any Canadian ports.

  7. Do you do “Booze Cruise” types of cruises?

Not really. You are allowed to bring your own beer and wine and we have a pretty good sound system with quad speakers. However, I would not call it a booze cruise since we are very family and retiree oriented with our cruises.

  8. What does the business name “SacHenCruises” mean and how do you pronounce it?

The name SacHenCruises is a short combination of the words, “Sackets Harbor and Henderson Harbor Boat Cruises.” It is pronounced, “Sack-Hen-Cruises.” This name is important because it describes what we do and is also very unique so that we were able to easily get a domain name for our award winning website.

  9. Is it okay to tip the Captain when we have had a really nice cruise?

Of course. Our cruises are super low priced so tipping is always greatly appreciated.

  10. Is there anyone that should not go on one of these cruises?

Talk to us about any specific situations. As a general rule it is not recommended for anyone that is severely restricted in mobility. You do have to be able to get into and out of the boat essentially on your own. You will get bounced around a little on rough days. You might get a little wet with some of the spray from the waves. You may also want to avoid a cruise if you are prone to motion sickness.
